Role and responsibilities:
- The role of the FO is to maintain financial control over maintaining sufficient funds on short term deposits or on call whilst maintaining investments.
- To prepare annual budgets in consultation with various Synod Officers.
- To monitor Synod Investments.
- With the assistance of the Finance assistant Lynne Lloyd, to maintain accurate accounting records, end of year accounts and administer payroll. Both the FO and the finance assistant liaise with auditors and prepare year end schedules to ensure a “clean” audit certificate is obtained.
- The FO identifies receipts and payments and prepares all ledger entries for the finance assistant, who in turn reconciles the bank statements.
- The FO reports to various committees and submits quarterly management accounts for review, along with budget v actual variants and property financials.
- The Finance assistant maintains all EM Grants as well as milage claims for reporting to the Moderator for review.
Other functions of the FO:
- Prepare annual M&M calculations in line with RCC recommendations and liaises with all churches.
- Maintains and monitors all grants applications and balances.
- Maintains all Council Tax and water rates for Manses who house a minister.
- Custodian of Church investments held at CCLA
- Administers Redditch Trust and Joseph Scott investments and accounts.
- Assists local churches with various accounting and payroll issues.
- Ensures all functions are carried out in compliance with charity law and the adheres to the charitable objectives of the Synod.
